WOMEN’S TENNIS CRUISES TO 5-2 TRIUMPH OVER BLUE HOSE

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team secured the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to capture its first Big South win of the season, a 5-2 decision over Presbyterian College, Friday afternoon at the Radford University Tennis Complex.

Taylor Newman and Meg Napolitano were impressive at the second flight, taking down Patricia Alves and Courtney Gardiner (8-2). After the Blue Hose (7-11, 0-5 Big South) won at No. 3 doubles, Gemma Valls and Hana Babic answered with an 8-5 victory over Greer Ransom and Lindsay Krause at the top spot to put the Highlanders (4-11, 1-4 Big South) in front, 1-0.

In singles, Newman was phenomenal in the first flight, recording a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ransom. The sophomore has won seven matches in a row and improves to 2-0 when playing as the top seed.

After dropping the point on court four, RU responded with wins from Allison Michael and Valls to clinch the match. Michael notched a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Lucia Leahy for her first win in conference play. Valls won the deciding point on court two by prevailing 7-5, 6-3 over Alves.

Babic came back from a set down to force a third set before falling (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) at the third flight to Caroline DeLoach. Fellow freshman Taylor Fay earned her first Big South victory on court five, outlasting Krause, 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 1-0 (10-7) to provide the final margin.

RU continues its five-match homestand on Wednesday, April 3 when Longwood visits the New River Valley for a league battle at 2:00 p.m.
