WOMEN’S TENNIS ENDS SEASON IN QUARTERFINALS

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Radford put up a valiant fight in doubles, but Charleston Southern rallied and went on to claim the first three singles matches to secure a 4-0 decision over the Highlanders Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship held at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.

Radford ends its season at 7-16, while the Buccaneers (13-6) advance and will take on the winner of the Campbell / UNC Asheville match in the semifinals Friday.

“I am proud of this group,” head coach Bruce Harrison said. “They never gave up and that is all I can ask for. Charleston Southern is a strong team and will be a tough out for the remaining teams in this tournament.”

After dropping the doubles match on court two, RU had an answer at the third flight as Gemma Valls and Taylor Fay combined for an 8-6 triumph over Marketa Placha and Susita Das. CSU claimed the doubles point, however, as Angelica Sidorenko and Alia Nour came from behind to edge Taylor Newman and Meg Napolitano, 8-5, at the top spot.

The Buccaneers recorded straight-set wins on courts two, three and one in singles to advance.
