PERSONAL-RECORDS DOMINATE DAY ONE OF HIGHLANDER INVITE

RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. – The first day of the Highlander Invitational saw many personal-records and top-10 finished from Radford student-athletes. Along with that, three Cupp Stadium records were broken in the men's long jump, women's long jump and the women's pole vault.

“I think the first day went really well,” head coach Brent Chumbley said. “ We don't have a lot of competition here, but the quality of competition here is great. There were three [Cupp] records broken today … We're looking forward to day two tomorrow.”

For the women, sophomore Jamiecka Baker took fifth in the long jump after a leap of 5.53m while junior Lakei Crews took eight with a personal-record distance of 5.37m. Senior Kayla Christian added a ninth place with a distance of 5.18m while freshman Lora Wilson took tenth with a leap of 5.18m in the long jump.

Sophomore Emmalane Hale recorded a personal-record in the discus throw with a distance of 39.26m. Sophomore Jazmine Banks and freshman Ashlen Veatch went eight and ninth in the discus after tosses of 33.79m and 29.38m, respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore Chris Henry added a fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 6.95m while senior Phillip Hovatter finished fifth with a distance of 6.85m.
