WOMEN’S TENNIS SUFFERS 7-0 SETBACK TO CHARLESTON SOUTHERN

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 Big South dual to Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon at the Radford University Tennis Complex.

Entering the match as the second-place squad in the league, the Buccaneers (10-5, 6-1 Big South) got all they could handle from Radford (6-12, 3-5 Big South) in the doubles portion.

After CSU claimed the battle at No. 2 doubles, the Highlanders answered with a victory at the third position. Trailing 6-1, Gemma Valls and Taylor Fay rallied to earn a thrilling 8-6 triumph over Susita Das and Marketa Placha.

On court one, Taylor Newman and Meg Napolitano showed some resiliency of their own by erasing an early deficit to earn match point. However, the tandem of Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko fought off that point and went on to tally a 9-8 decision to put the Bucs on top, 1-0.

In singles, CSU prevailed on courts five, two and three to clinch the dual. Napolitano was locked in a tight battle at No. 4 singles. The sophomore blanked Alexandra Walters (6-0) in the first set, before falling in the second frame (6-3).

Since the team outcome had been decided, the two went into a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker. After a long series of rallies, Walters outlasted Napolitano, 13-11.

Radford concludes its four-match homestand Wednesday, April 10 against in-state foe James Madison. The nonconference dual begins at 2:30 p.m.
