Radford field hockey opens its 2013 campaign this weekend as the Highlanders travel to William & Mary on Friday, Aug. 30 for the season opener, followed by a neutral site contest on Sunday, Sept. 1 against Miami (Ohio) in Farmville, Va. Game times are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m., respectively.

A LOOK AT YOUR HIGHLANDERS: The Highlanders return nine starters and several key personnel from last year's squad… They are led by leading goal scorer, sophomore Stacey Mackintosh, who posted nine goals and 19 points in her rookie season… It was most for a freshman since 1991… Freshman Marianna Parker added three goals, while junior Ashton Cox and senior Alayna Versage chipped in with four and three assists, respectively… Senior Sidney Encarnacion started all 21 matches in goal last season, making 159 saves… The Highlanders played in some tight contests last season as 11 were decided by two goals or less, eight of which were one-goal affairs (four overtimes).

THE TRIBE: William & Mary is coming of a 10-9 season in 2012… Pip Saunders returns after tallying team-best eight goals and six assists as a freshman.
THE SERIES: This will be the 29th meeting between the in-state foes… The Tribe own a 25-3 record after a 4-0 win last season in Williamsburg… The Highlanders last victory was a 6-1 triumph on Sept. 5, 2010.

THE REDHAWKS: Miami, which finished 12-10 last season, is the reigning Mid-American Conference champions and was picked to win the title in 2013… The RedHawks won a pair of one-goal contests to win the tournament… They were defeated in the NCAA play-in game by Stanford… MAC Freshman of the Year Bea Dechant is the RedHawks top returning scorer with nine goals and six assists.
THE SERIES: Radford is 2-0 against Miami, winning a pair of 1-0 contests in Oxford, Ohio… The last matchup was 10 years ago and the first ever meeting was in 1991.
