AUSTIN, HAMMOND TIED FOR NINTH AT WILLIAM & MARY INVITATIONAL

RESULTS

 

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Alexandra Austin and Hayley Hammond are tied for ninth, and the Radford women's golf team is sixth after Sunday's first round of the William & Mary Invitational contested on the Plantation Course at Kingsmill Resort.
 
Tournament host William & Mary is tied with Morehead State out of the Ohio Valley Conference at 10-over-par 294. The duo leads third-place Elon by eight shots. Richmond is fourth at 307, followed by Georgetown at 309. The Hoyas are six swings clear of the Highlanders, who carded a 315 on the par 71, 5,958-yard layout.
 
Austin and Hammond paced the Radford contingent at 4-over-par 75. They are five shots off the pace set by the Tribe's Kelly McGovern, who returned the only red-figure round of the day at 1-under-par 70. Hammond played her par 3s in 1-under-par, which is tied for second in the 51-player field.
 
In just her second collegiate event, Olivia Jay fired the Highlanders' third-best score (81). The freshman is tied for 29th. Three strokes behind were Kirsty Condon and Paige Reese. The duo is tied for 34th at 84.
 
Radford is grouped with Richmond and Georgetown for Monday's second round, which begins at 9:10 a.m. for the three squads.
