WOMEN’S GOLF SHOOTS LOW ROUND OF SEASON IN WILLIAMSBURG

ROUND 2

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Behind three rounds in the 70s, the Radford women's golf team carded its lowest round of the season Monday during the second round of the William & Mary Invitational. The tournament is being played at Kingsmill Resort's Plantation Course (par 71, 5,958 yards).

Alexandra Austin led the Highlanders on the second day, firing a 2-over-par 73. Her 36-hole ledger of 148 has Austin tied for ninth entering Tuesday's final round. Hayley Hammond has been a model of consistency at this event, charting back-to-back 75s for a two-day total of 150. The Mooresville, N.C. native is tied for 14th in the 51-player field.

The biggest mover for RU on the day was Paige Reese, who shaved seven strokes off her opening-round 84 to post a 77. Her 36-hole 161 has the senior tied for 30th. Olivia Jay is 35th at 162 (81-81) and Kirsty Condon is 37th at 164 (84-80).

Morehead State returned a 7-over-par 291 to the clubhouse Monday to create a five-shot separation between itself and tournament host William & Mary. The Eagles are at 585, while the Tribe are at 590 through 36 holes of competition. Elon is third at 595, followed by Richmond (603) and Georgetown (607). The Hoyas are 13 swings clear of Radford.

A big reason behind Morehead State's surge in the second round is credited to Anna Appert Lund, who blistered the track with a tournament-low, 3-under-par 68. She is tied for the lead with first-round frontrunner Kelly McGovern of William & Mary at 1-over-par 143.

Once again, Radford will tee off with Richmond and Georgetown for Tuesday's final round, which begins at 8:50 a.m. for the three squads.
