FIELD HOCKEY HOSTS DAVIDSON AND TRAVELS TO NO. 9 DUKE THIS WEEKEND

Radford looks to rebound from a tough defeat at home on Tuesday when it hosts Davidson on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5:00 p.m. in a NorPac East Division battle. That will be followed by a tough road test at No. 9 Duke on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Highlanders (1-5, 0-1 NorPac East) and Wildcats (3-3, 0-1) both endured one-goal losses in their respective league openers against Longwood and Appalachian State, respectively. The Blue Devils (5-1) have won their last three and five of six to start the season.

LAST TIME OUT: Radford jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead, but Longwood rallied to edge the Highlanders, 3-2 on Tuesday... Senior Alayna Versage and sophomore Marianna Parker scored for the Highlanders... LU's Jessica Diaz scored the game-winner with just over five minutes to go... Freshman Ava Mirzadegan recorded her second defensive save of the season... Sidney Encarnacion and Jillian Lates combined for seven saves.

A LOOK AT YOUR HIGHLANDERS: Radford leads the NCAA with 11 defensive saves over the first six games of the season... Parker paces Radford with three goals and six points... Versage ranks third all-time with 14 defensive saves, three from setting a new school mark... The one-goal loss made it 12 one-goal decisions between Radford and Longwood in the last 15 meetings... In four appearances and one start, Lates has posted a 1.18 GAA with 15 saves and an .882 save percentage… In her first collegiate start, she registered five saves to shut out Saint Louis.
 
THE WILDCATS: After starting 3-0, Davidson has dropped its last three contests, including a 2-1 defeat in its NorPac opener at Appalachian State on Tuesday... Melissa Funsten scored her team-best fifth goal against the Mountaineers and tops the Wildcats with 11 points... Tyler McFayden and Danielle King each have a team-high four assists.
 
THE WILDCATS: Ninth-ranked Duke will be the second of four nationally-ranked ACC opponents Radford will face on the road this season… The Blue Devils are coming off three consecutive one-goal victories with the most recent a 1-0 home triumph over No. 15 Old Dominion…. Prior to Sunday's match, Duke will host No.  13 Northwestern on Friday… Emmie Le Marchand and Heather Morris each have a team-best four goals… Lauren Blazing has started all six matches in goal, posting 0.94 GAA with 24 saves and two shutouts.
 
THE DC SERIES: Radford leads the all-time series, 26-14-2... Davidson swept the series last season, including a 2-1 overtime victory at RU Hockey Field... The Wildcats have won the last three meetings all by one goal... RU last defeated DC, 5-3, on Oct. 14, 2011 at home.
 
THE DUKE SERIES: Duke has won all 13 meetings against the Highlanders, the most recent a 4-0 setback in 2007.
 
UP NEXT: Radford hosts Appalachian State on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1:00 p.m. in its third home and NorPac contest of the season.
