HIGHLANDERS WELCOME MOUNTAINEERS FOR LEAGUE MATCH ON SATURDAY

Radford hosts Appalachian State in a key early season NorPac East matchup on Saturday afternoon. Both 1-1 in league play, the Highlanders (2-6) and Mountaineers (2-5) square off from RU Hockey Field at 1:00 p.m.
  
LAST TIME OUT: Radford dropped a road contest at then-No. 9 Duke, 6-0 last Sunday. That was preceded by a 1-0 overtime victory over Davidson on Friday at home. Senior Alayna Versage scored just 1:14 into overtime to lift the Highlanders to their first NorPac victory of 2013. Versage also recorded a defensive save in the triumph and followed that with two more against the Blue Devils on Sunday.
 
A LOOK AT RU: With those three defensive saves, Versage moved her season total to six and her career total to 17, surpassing Natalie Bowen for the all-time mark… The Highlanders lead the NCAA with 16 defensive saves… Along with Versage, juniors Jordan Vrhovac and Jennifer Hedrick each have three with freshman Ava Mirzadegan recording two… Sophomore Marianna Parker leads RU's offensive with three goals and six points, while junior Ashton Cox has dished out a team-best three assists… Senior Sidney Encarnacion has notched 55 saves in 424:27 of action.
 
THE MOUNTAINEERS: Appalachian State dropped its last two matches, a pair on non-conference affairs against James Madison and Rider… Prior to that, the Mountaineers edged Davidson, 2-1 in Boone on Sept. 17… Caroline Phillips had notched a team-high three goals, while Jordyn Warren and Lindsay Amador have two each… Sarah Anderson has logged 413:03 in net and has made a league-best 72 saves this season.
 
THE SERIES: Radford holds a 35-11 lead in the series after sweeping the regular season last year… In 2013, the Highlanders defeated the Mountaineers, 3-2 (OT) in Boone and 2-0 at home... RU has won the last three and four of the last five meetings… Appalachian State last defeated Radford, 3-2 on Sept. 23, 2011 at RU Hockey Field.
 
UP NEXT: Radford heads back out on the road for a mid-week non-conference contest at No. 4 Virginia on Oct. 1 at 6:00 p.m.
