HIGHLANDERS CRUISE PAST DELAWARE STATE, 6-0

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. – Behind goals from six different Highlanders, Radford women's soccer cruised to a 6-0 victory over Delaware State on Friday evening from Cupp Memorial Stadium.

Five Highlanders scored their first goals of the season and two, freshmen Britney Kendall and red-shirt freshman Maddy Bisantz, netted their first collegiate goals as the Highlanders (3-0-1) remained undefeated during the non-conference portion of their schedule.

The win extended the Highlanders' undefeated regular season and home streaks to 18 and 12 games, respectively. It is also Radford's best start since beginning 2007, 4-0, and the first undefeated start after four games since 2008 (2-0-2).

Sophomore Asyia Mitchell and senior Sahar Aflaki gave the Highlanders a quick 2-0 lead over the Hornets (0-3) 9:42 into the match. Mitchell put Radford on the board at the 7:39 mark when freshman Melanie Priestley found her in the box with a short service from the right and ripped it low far post. It was Priestley's first collegiate helper and point.

Just over two minutes later, Aflaki dribbled across the top of the 18-yard box and ripped a low shot far post for her second strike of the season.

Juniors Stephanie Herb and Annabel Bergin doubled the Highlanders' advantage to 4-0 with similar finishes off long through balls by seniors Julie Ruh'e and Lauren Hicks, respectively. Ruh'e played the ball into the right side of the box to a streaking Herb and she slotted the ball low far post in the 19th minute. Nine minutes later, Hicks found Bergin in almost the same spot and the junior midfielder roofed her finish for the four-goal advantage. It was Hicks' first collegiate assist.

Kendall did not take long to get on the board in the second half, scoring just 1:21 into the stanza after beating the keeper 1v1. Bergin, who set the goal up, finished the night with three points.

Bisantz, who missed her entire freshman season rehabbing a knee injury, closed out the scoring in the 80th minute as Kendall found her making an open run in the center of the 18-yard box. Bisantz one-timed her first collegiate touch to the left of the keeper and the ball found the netting just 30 seconds into her collegiate career.

Entering in the second half, senior goalkeeper Lauren Markey preserved Radford's second straight shutout with two saves.

The Highlanders outshot the Hornets, 23-7, including 14-1 in the first half. Aflaki and Kendall paced the attack with four shots apiece. Seven different Hornets recorded a shot, while keeper Katelyn Koslosky registered five saves.

Radford returns to the pitch next Friday, Sept. 13 hosting Southern Virginia in its final home non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.
