PARKER SCORES TWICE, HIGHLANDERS SHUT OUT SAINT LOUIS, 3-0

BOX SCORE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Marianna Parker scored two goals and sophomore Jillian Lates made five saves as Radford Field Hockey shut out Saint Louis, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon from Indiana University Field Hockey Complex.

Parker's first multi-goal game of her career and Lates' first collegiate start and shutout keyed the Highlanders (1-2) to their first win of 2013. Junior Ashton Cox added two assists and has three on the young season.

"The team rebounded well from last week playing much better hockey with confidence," said head coach Jeff Woods. "We applied the pressure right away scoring an early goal in each half. That was really good to see."

Radford came out firing on all cylinders and junior Sydney Myrdal gave her squad a 1-0 lead just 3:53 into the match. After her initial shot on a penalty corner was blocked, Myrdal banged home the rebound for her first goal of the season.

Over the next eight minutes, each team took turns with five-shot flurries following the first goal, but neither side could find the back of the cage. The squads continued to trade shots, but both defenses and keepers kept the score at 1-0 before Parker finally broke through in the 28th minute. Her first goal of the season was set up by Cox, who found her with a feed from the center of the circle at the left post.

Parker gave the Highlanders a 3-0 lead just 2:05 into the second stanza as Cox found her again with a feed across the mouth of the cage for an easy finish.

Lates made three of her saves, including one 36 seconds after Parker's strike, in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Parker paced Radford's 25-shot attack with a career-high 10, while sophomore Stacey Mackintosh added six. The Highlanders finished the match with 24-12 and 11-8 advantages in shots and corners, respectively. SLU keeper Megan Depew-Brady made 10 saves.

Radford closes out its trip to Bloomington, Ind. with a contest against the host Hoosiers tomorrow, Sept. 8 at 1:00 pm.
