HIGHLANDERS DOWNED BY INDIANA, 3-0

BOX SCORE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana scored three goals in the first half and defeated Radford, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon from IU Field Hockey Complex. Senior Sidney Encarnacion made a season-high nine saves for the Highlanders (1-3).

The Hoosiers (2-2) found early paydirt on a penalty corner as Karen Lorite scored in the 12th minute. Goals by Rachel Stauffer and Lorite less than two minutes apart made it 3-0 at the 22:21 mark of the firt half.

"We got off to a rought start today and had a few defensive breakdowns that led to their goals in the first half," said head coach Jeff Woods.

Encarnacion made five of her saves in the second half to keep Indiana off the scoreboard.  Sophomore Marianna Parker had the best chance for the Highlanders with a breakaway in the 57th minute, but Hoosier keeper Maggie Olson was able to make the save. Olsen finished with two saves.

"We played a strong second half against a good team and had a few really good chances to score," commented Woods. "We just need to start strong and put two halves together."

Parker and classmate Stacey Mackintosh each recorded two shots for the Highlanders.

Radford remains on the road as it takes on No. 1 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
