SAYER PUTS UP VALIANT EFFORT IN ROUND OF 32 AT ITA ATLANTIC REGIONAL

RESULTS

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Natalie Sayer of the Radford women's tennis team battled back from an opening-set loss to force a third set, but was unable to complete the comeback as she was eliminated from the singles main draw Sunday at the ITA Atlantic Regional. Virginia Tech is hosting the tournament at its Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

For the second-straight match, Sayer had to go three sets to decide the outcome. The freshman defeated Welma Luus of Maryland in three sets in Saturday's round of 64.

However, Sunday's end result in the round of 32 against seventh-seeded Jeltje Loomans of William & Mary was different. After dropping the first frame, 6-2, Sayer showed resiliency in the next set. Trailing 5-4 late in the second stanza, Sayer reeled off three-straight games to capture the set and square the match at one set apiece. In the deciding third set, Loomans was able to break serve early en route to the 6-2 triumph.

With the conclusion of this event, the Highlanders now turn their focus to the spring dual season, which begins Jan. 17 at Virginia Tech.
