FREDERICKSEN SEVENTH WITH SCHOOL RECORD IN 100 FLY AT CCSA CHAMPIONSHIPS

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Sarah Fredericksen set a school record in the 100 butterfly prelims, then improved on it in championship final, earning a seventh place finish at the CCSA Championships on Friday evening at Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

RESULTS

The sophomore qualified for the "A" final and became the first Highlander to break the 57-second barrier with a 56.71 in the final heat of time trials. She followed that up with a 56.54 in the finals, lowering her school record and placing seventh. In doing so, she became the first Highlander to reach a CCSA Championship "A" final.

Her time broke Agnes Mago's record of 57.01 that has held up since 11/18/05.

As a team, the Highlanders moved up a spot into ninth as they head into the final day of competition.

Also in the 100 fly prelims, junior Claire Doherty and freshman Marinda Kitchen improved on their top-10 program times with a 57.81 and 59.37, respectively. Doherty's time kept her in third, while Kitchen broke one-minute for the first time in her career and moved from the sixth to the fourth fastest time.

For the second straight day, freshman Lindsey Anderson posted a top-10 mark, this time in the 400 individual medley prelim. She moved from seventh to fifth after churning out 4:44.62. Also freshman Madeline Schouten logged a 1:09.57 in the 100 breaststroke, a new personal best, which also moved her up three spots to seventh on the top-10 list.

In the final prelim (100 backstroke) of the morning, freshman Laura Bradley broke the one-minute barrier for the first time in her career with a 59.72, which marks the fourth fastest in program history.

Competition wraps up tomorrow with swimming prelims at 10:00 a.m. and diving at 1:30 p.m. with finals beginning at 6:00 p.m.
