HICKLING NCAA ZONE A QUALIFIER; SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT CCSA CHAMPIONSHIPS

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –
 Skye Hickling's collegiate career will continue after the senior qualified for the NCAA Zone A Championship with a school-record score on the three-meter board as well as finishing fifth overall at the 2014 CCSA Championships, Friday evening at Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
 
Hickling's qualifying mark of 285.80 was obtained in the prelims where she finished second overall. It surpassed the mark of 281.55 set by Katie Shaffer on 10/30/10 in a dual with Old Dominion. It also surpassed her career-best by over 10 points. In the championship session, Hickling recorded the second-best score of her career with a 282.15 for fifth place, which adds to the seventh she garnered on the one-meter, Thursday.
 
She will take part in the Zone Championship scheduled for March 10-12 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
 
Coming off a school record and seventh place finish in the 100 butterfly last night, Sarah Fredericksen added to a strong championship with a 2:06.83 performance in the 200 fly, finishing  15th overall. She earned her spot in the "B" final with the 11th fastest time in the morning prelims with a season-best 2:06.28.
 
The Highlanders concluded the 2014 championships with 109 points and a ninth-place finish. The 400 freestyle relay team closed out with a season-best time of 3:40.04.

Including Hickling's 3-meter score, Radford recorded seven more personal bests as well as four season bests. Joining Hickling was fellow diver, senior Alex Poletti, who improved by almost 20 points with a score of 240.35 in the afternoon prelims.
 
In the pool, freshman Marinda Kitchen churned out a 2:12.66 in the 200 butterfly, which was put her in eighth on the career top-10. Classmates, Elena Acevedo (55.97) and Carly Csapo (1:00.33) in the 100 freestyle as well as Madeline Schouten (2:37.99) and Deanna Friedel (2:40.99) in the 200 breaststroke closed out their rookie seasons with personal bests in their respective events.
 
Putting in season-best marks were senior Meaghan Rowley in the 200 back (2:16.96), junior Morgan Sullivan in the 100 freestyle (58.33) and sophomore Jordan Jessee in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.72).
