LATE INNING BURST POWERS SOFTBALL OVER ALABAMA A&M, 8-3

AUBURN, Ala. – Radford Softball scored seven runs on eight hits over the final three innings en route to an 8-3 victory over Alabama A&M in the first game on day two of the War Eagle Classic at Auburn's Jane B. Moore  Field.
 
Sophomore Hayley Tabora and freshman Julie Gardner homered to bolster the Highlanders' biggest run total of the season. Gardner finished 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Sophomore Casey Burns also had two hits, while freshman Kayla Bishton knocked in two runs.
 
Burns put the Highlanders on the board, 1-0, with a sac fly in the top of the first. Radford took advantage of two hit by pitches and a walk to load the bases for Burns.
 
Tabora first collegiate long ball, a solo shot to left, in the fifth doubled RU's lead to 2-0.
 
The Highlanders pushed across three in the sixth and three more in the seventh for an 8-0 lead. The big hit in the sixth was a two-run, two-out  double by Bishton. Gardner's moonshot to center was a two-run shot, her third round tripper of the season in the seventh.
 
Junior Kelsey Weddle earned her first collegiate win, scattering three hits and a walk over four innings. Following a single, freshman Abby Morrow retired her next six, five straight via strikeout in two innings of scoreless relief.
 
The Tigers pushed across three, only one earned, in the bottom of the seventh to close out the scoring.
 
The Highlanders are currently taking on Savannah State in their second contest of the day.
