WOMEN’S GOLF POSTS BEST-EVER FINISH AT KIAWAH ISLAND CLASSIC

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –
The Radford women's golf team carded a 328 in Tuesday's final round to finish 20th out of 36 teams at the Kiawah Island Classic hosted by the College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Resort.
 
Making their third straight trip to this tournament, the Highlanders have improved their ranking each year. Radford finished 31st in 2012 and 21st in 2013. RU, which shot a 54-hole 959 (318-313-328), played its final round on the par 72, 6,001-yard Cougar Point golf course based on making the championship cut for the first time in three tries. The top 19 teams played on Cougar Point, while the remaining 17 teams battled it out at Oak Point.
 
Guiding the Highlanders in the final round was Olivia Jay, who turned in a 5-over-par 77. She birdied three of her final nine holes to finish the tournament tied for 90th at 239 (80-82-77). Hayley Hammond was the top Radford golfer on the individual leaderboard with a 234 (77-74-83), which tied for 62nd.
 
Alexandra Austin closed the tournament at 240 (82-77-81) to tie for 99th, while Kirsty Condon tied for 120th at 246 (79-80-87). Paige Reese rounded out the lineup in 187th at 275 (87-99-89).
 
Kent State, which entered the tournament as the field's highest-ranked team at No. 37, won the team title by 14 shots over Penn State. The Golden Flashes fired an 892 (292-302-298) over their three rounds, and were led by co-medalist Wad Phaewchimplee. She registered a 4-over-par 220 (69-81-70) to tie Boston College's Katia Joo.
 
Radford returns to Kingsmill Resort for the second time this season to play in William & Mary's Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate, March 16-18. The Highlanders will tee it up for 54 holes on the famed River Course in Williamsburg, Va.
