RADFORD LINEUP
The Highlanders will go with their same lineup of Callum Tarren, Conner Hayden, Tanner Carbaugh, Ryan Rettberg and Nick Brediger. RU has not finished outside the top eight of the team standings through its seven tournaments this season. In addition, the Highlanders have a 294.4 scoring average with this starting five.
THE FIELD
If Radford successfully defends its title, it will have beaten some stiff competition. Three Top-100 Division I programs are set to tee it up in the tournament: No. 36 Liberty, No. 78 East Carolina and No. 93 USC Upstate. The Highlanders are just outside the top 100 at No. 106 following its incredible play in Davidson, N.C. Hartford's Evan Russell is the highest-ranked golfer in the field at No. 50.
THE COURSE
The Grand Strand's third-oldest and most well-known golf club was originally designed by George Cobb. The course opened in 1960, and was first renovated in 1990 by John Lafoy. In 1996, the club replaced the greens with G2 bentgrass. With a traditional layout featuring wide fairways and minimal fairway bunkers, teams normally have to go low to win. RU shot 7-under-par to post a five-shot victory last year.
UP NEXT
Following spring break, Radford resumes competition at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by William & Mary at Kingsmill Resort's pristine River Course in Williamsburg, Va. The three-day 54-hole tournament begins March 23.
