WOMEN’S TENNIS CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH RESOUNDING WIN

RADFORD, Va. – Save your best for last. It is a phrase most have heard, but the Radford women's tennis team displayed it Saturday afternoon in its convincing 7-0 win over UNC Asheville at the Radford University Tennis Complex.

With the result, Radford (10-12, 4-5 Big South) reaches double-figure wins for the seventh time in program history, and ties the program record for conference wins with four. The decision also assures the Highlanders of a spot in next week's quarterfinals of the Big South women's tennis championship.

Radford captured the doubles point at the top two flights. Meg Napolitano and Grace Sarver rallied late to dispatch Christian Boissevain and Amryn Soldier, 8-5, at the No. 2 position. Taylor Newman and Gemma Valls sealed the 1-0 edge for RU with their 8-5 victory over Zoe Hamel and Erica Rivero on court one.

Momentum carried over into singles as Napolitano cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three over Soldier. The outcome improved Napolitano's Big South record to 5-4. Gisela Garcia was next to finish at No. 5 singles, taking down Boissevain (6-0, 7-5). Sara Andrade delivered the dagger at the sixth position when she defeated Gillian Lewis (6-2, 7-5).

Newman, Valls and Sarver secured the sweep for Radford by prevailing in three sets in their respective singles matches.

Seeding for the Big South women's tennis championship will be released Sunday by the conference office. The Highlanders will play in a Tuesday quarterfinal matchup against either Liberty or Campbell at the Webb Tennis Complex in Boiling Springs, N.C.
