NEWMAN NAMED ALL-ACADEMIC, WOMEN’S TENNIS COLLIDES WITH LIBERTY

RADFORD, Va. – For the second-straight year, Taylor Newman has been selected a Big South all-academic honoree as announced by the conference office Monday.

Newman was Radford's representative on the 10-player team, which is voted upon by sports information directors from around the league.

A 4.0 student majoring in journalism, Newman also got it done on the tennis court. The junior played all but three of her singles matches at the top flight, and teamed with Gemma Valls at No. 1 doubles to go 9-6.

One of the tandem's doubles victories came against the Highlanders' next opponent, Liberty. Radford and the Flames will square off for the second time this year when the two in-state rivals clash Tuesday at the Webb Tennis Complex in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Big South women's tennis championship quarterfinal is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. weather permitting.
