HIGHLANDERS WALK OFF WITH SERIES IN 13TH

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. - Alexander Lee hit a three-run home run in the eighth to tie the game and then won it in the bottom of the 13th Saturday with an RBI single as Radford (20-17, 10-8) defeated Campbell (26-14, 12-6), 5-4, and took two of three in the series. Both hits came off CU closer Ryan Thompson (4-1), who blew his first save in 11 attempts this season and then took the loss after 5.1 innings tossed and 109 pitches.

Campbell led 4-1 in the eighth and turned over a quality start from Ryan Koopman to one of the nation's best closers in Thompson. He came into the game having given up only one earned run this season and boasting a 0.17 ERA. Patrick Marshall greeted the reliever with a single to center putting a pair of runners on base for Lee. Lee lifted a 2-2 pitch high over the left field fence to even the game. It was his second home run of the season.

Both teams squandered opportunities to win the game in extra innings. The remainder of the game tunred into a pitching duel between Thompson and RU reliever Ryan Meisinger. Meisinger worked 4.2 scoreless innings and two runners on in the top of the 13th, he left the game for James Woods to face Campbell's Danny Pardo. Woods (4-1) struck out Pardo and earned the victory after facing just one batter.

Pardo gave the Camels the lead in the first inning for the third straight time in the series. He opened the game with a single and scored on Matt Parrish's RBI single. The Highlanders tied it in the third when Danny Hrbek opened the inning with a triple and scored on a Chris Coia sacrifice fly. Pardo drove in a run with a base hit in the fifth to give the Camels back the lead. Seth LaRue doubled home a run for CU in the sixth to make it 3-1, and Matt Nadolski hit a solo homer in the eighth to give CU a 4-1 lead.

Michael Boyle made the start for the Highlanders and did not factor in the decision. He went 6.2 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits.

Radford remains at home Tuesday when it hosts North Carolina A&T at 6:00 p.m.
