
MEN’S GOLF SETS SIGHTS ON BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Entering as the No. 2 seed, its highest seeding since 2008, Radford has high expectations when the Highlanders tee off in the 2014 Big South Men's Golf Championship Monday through Wednesday.
The three-day, 54-hole event will be hosted by The Patriot Golf Club (par 72, 7,120 yards) for the ninth time in 10 years, as the course has hosted the championship every year since 2008, in addition to 2005 and 2006. Admission is free and open to the public. Fans unable to make the trip can follow along with Golfstat's live scoring feature.
A practice round is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., while the first, the second and the third rounds are slated for an 8:30 a.m. start each day. The 2014 champion will receive the Big South's automatic berth to the NCAA regionals. Meanwhile, the Big South Conference will announce its 2014 all-conference team, all-freshman team, all-academic team, all-championship team and its annual award winners following Wednesday's final round.

RU has not finished outside the Top 5 of the team standings this spring (five tournaments). In addition, the Highlanders have a 291.3 scoring average with this starting five.
Radford has all five of its golfers in the Top 20 of the Big South scoring average rankings: Tarren (ninth / 73.41), Carbaugh (12th / 73.52), Hayden (13th / 73.56), Rettberg (14th / 73.70) and Brediger (17th / 74.11). No other Big South program has all five of its golfers inside the Top 20.
THE FIELD
Four of the 10 teams vying for the conference title are ranked inside the nation's Top 100: Liberty (No. 35), Radford (No. 84), Winthrop (No. 87) and Coastal Carolina (No. 88). The Chanticleers are the defending champions.
