WOMEN’S TENNIS CAPS OFF STRONG WEEKEND WITH 5-2 WIN AT GARDNER-WEBB

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Radford went on the road Sunday afternoon and registered a critical 5-2 Big South women's tennis victory over Gardner-Webb at Webb Tennis Complex.

With their fourth win in the past five outings, the Highlanders (8-9, 3-3 Big South) surpass their win total from last season. The Runnin' Bulldogs fall to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in league play.

After dropping the doubles point yesterday against Presbyterian College, Radford was in impressive form today. Taylor Newman and Gemma Valls cruised to an 8-1 triumph over Yasmin Doost and Ronia Huttereli at the first flight. Gisela Garcia and Taylor Fay locked the 1-0 edge for the Highlanders with their 8-5 decision against Mary Walker Mixon and Teodora Stanciu on court three.

Gardner-Webb's Rokia Sacko opened singles competition with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Garcia at No. 5, which tied the match at 1. From there, Radford won the next four singles tilts to surge past the Runnin' Bulldogs.

On court three, Meg Napolitano took down Huttereli in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Newman followed suit with her 7-5, 6-3 win over Doost at the top position. Grace Sarver delivered the clinching victory at the fourth flight over Valeria Popko (6-2, 7-5). Valls added the Highlanders' final tally on court two (6-4, 7-5) over Jenny Lunde.

Radford ends its three-match road swing against Coastal Carolina at 9 a.m. Monday.
