NC STATE HALTS RADFORD WINNING STREAK

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. - North Carolina State (30-21) snapped Radford's five-game winning streak Tuesday with a 6-1 victory at RU Baseball Stadium. Six Wolfpack pitchers held the Highlanders (30-20) to two hits as RU fell to 16-7 at home on the season.

Josh Reavis singled home Radford's only run in the sixth inning after Blake Sipe and Chris Coia led off the inning with back-to-back walks. The base hit was the first of the night for the Highlanders and at the time, cut the N.C. State lead to 3-1. Patrick Marshall followed with the second base hit in the inning, but Hunter Higgerson fouled out with the bases loaded to end the threat.

The Wolfpack answered with two runs in the seventh and another in the ninth to seal the victory. Ryan Williamson started for NCSU and worked a scoreless two innings with three strikeouts. He issued a walk to Alexander Lee to allow his only base runner. Joe O'Donnell (3-0) came on in relief and retired all nine batters he faced in 3.0 innings to earn the victory on the mound. He struck out four Highlanders.

Tyler Costello (0-3), who was making his final career start at home, scattered seven hits in 4.0 innings and gave up just one run in the first inning when Andrew Knizner tripled with two outs and was driven in on a double by Brett Austin. The Pack scored two more runs in the fifth to make it 3-0 off reliever Kyle Palmer. Radford used eight pitchers on the night.

Austin collected three hits, two doubles and a solo home run, and Knizner was 4-5 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the visitors offensively. Trea Turner, Logan Ratledge, and Preston Palmeiro each collected two hits as well.

Radford hosts Liberty in a three-game Big South Conference series beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to round out the regular season.
