NATALIE SAYER SET TO JOIN WOMEN’S TENNIS IN THE FALL

RADFORD, Va. – If Radford tennis fans thought they had seen the last of a Sayer competing for the Highlanders, then they can think again. On Wednesday afternoon, Radford women's tennis head coach Martin Sayer announced his younger sister, Natalie Sayer, has signed a national letter of intent with RU and will begin her collegiate career in the fall.

Natalie becomes the third Sayer to play for the Highlanders, and the first on the women's side. Her older brothers, Martin (2006-09) and Nicholas (2011-14), were two of the all-time greats to play for the men's tennis team.

"I am excited to have a player of Natalie's caliber join our program this fall," Coach Sayer had to say about his sibling. "I have high expectations for her. Natalie has the ability to make an immediate impact on our program and our conference. Her extremely competitive nature will compliment our returning group. She is enthusiastic about joining our team and helping us move closer to the goals we have set as a program."

Like her brothers, Natalie has enjoyed a stellar career in the junior ranks. Currently 11th in the United Kingdom U18 rankings, Natalie had climbed to as high as No. 4. Her ranking skyrocketed after finishing runner-up in the Cardiff British Tour last year.

She recently captured the 2014 British Colleges Singles Championship, which featured the top school-attending juniors in Britain. Natalie also played in numerous International Tennis Federation (ITF) events, including a doubles tournament where she and her partner finished runner-up.

At the club level, Natalie guided West Hants to the U18 national championship, which was played at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, England.

In addition to tennis, Natalie also ran track and cross country at her high school (Barton Peveril College) in Hampshire, England.

Natalie joins a strong returning group, which finished 10-13 overall and tied for the most Big South wins (four) in program history.
