HAYLEY HAMMOND CAPTURES NORTH CAROLINA WOMEN’S AMATEUR

RESULTS

LUMBERTON, N.C. –
Radford graduate and former women's golf standout Hayley Hammond topped the leaderboard at the 65th North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship Thursday afternoon to win her first tournament following graduation. The three-day, 54-hole event was contested at the par 72, 6,131-yard PineCrest Country Club.

Finishing at 3-over-par 219, Hammond posted a four-shot victory over runner-up Pat Brogden. She opened with a 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday's first round, and then followed with rounds of 77 (Wednesday) and 72 (Thursday) to prevail. Mallory Hetzel, who is the head coach of the Western Carolina women's golf team, placed third at 8-over-par 224. Hammond's first-round 70 was the only sub-par round in the 27-golfer field.

"I came into this tournament with the mindset and confidence that I could win," expressed Hammond. "Everything clicked for me, especially Tuesday and today. The rush of winning one of my state's top tournaments is exhilarating."
