AUSTIN GRABS FIRST-ROUND LEAD AT WILLIAM & MARY INVITATIONAL

ROUND 1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –
Senior Alexandra Austin of the Radford women's golf team signed for an even-par 72 Sunday to grab hold of the first-round lead at the William & Mary Invitational, which is being played on the par 72, 5,948-yard Kingsmill Resort Plantation Course.

Behind their individual frontrunner, the Highlanders carded a 319 and are in 11th place on the team leaderboard. Despite its slow start, Radford is only 10 shots back of fourth place. Elon leads the 13-team field at 300. Appalachian State (307), Morehead State (307), Towson (309) and William & Mary (309) complete the tournament's top-5.

Austin logged four birdies en route to her season-best round. Using her distance off the tee, Austin is tied for first in par-5 scoring with Elon's Kelsey Badmaev at 3-under. She clings to a 1-shot advantage over Mia Zanghetti of William & Mary, Heather Munzo of Elon and Annette Lyche of UNC Wilmington with 36 holes to play.

Khushboo Thiagaraj, the reigning Big South women's golf freshman of the week, carded a 79 and is tied for 32nd. She played the par-3s in 1-under, which is tied for the top score in the field. Fellow classmate Larissa Carter is tied for 47th with an 82. The New York native recorded three birdies on the day to boost her round. Meagan Board is tied for 59th at 86, while Olivia Jay is one shot back at 87 and tied for 63rd.

Radford returns to the course Monday morning for the tournament's second round. The Highlanders will be paired with William & Mary and Bucknell. The trio's first group is set to go off at 9:51 a.m.
