RADFORD, Va. – Radford women's tennis head coach Martin Sayer does not shy away from scheduling stiff competition. The Highlanders' season-opening opponent reflects that statement.

RU, under the direction of its second-year head coach, makes the short trip to nationally-ranked Virginia Tech for Sunday's 10:30 a.m. battle at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.

The Hokies enter the 2015 dual season as the 57^th-ranked team in the nation. Tech boasts two nationally-ranked doubles pairs in Raluca Mita/Francesca Fusinato (No. 36) and Raluca Mita/Ilinca Stoica (No. 50). Individually, Stoica is the No. 4-ranked singles player in the Atlantic Region, while Fusinato checks in at No. 6.

Radford is coming off a successful fall campaign where it posted a 52.3 win percentage in singles—its highest in recent history. Meg Napolitano recorded a 5-2 mark in the fall to lead the Highlanders. Taylor Newman (6-3), Taylor Fay (4-2) and Natalie Sayer (5-4) all won over half of their matches. In doubles, Sayer and Fay were nearly unstoppable, going 4-1 in their five bouts.

Following Sunday's tilt, RU has a week to prepare for its next match, a Jan. 25 dual against East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
