FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team dropped the finale of its three-match road stretch Wednesday night, falling to host Longwood 2-0.
The Lancers (6-5-1, 2-1-1) tallied goals in the 14th and 28th minutes and held off the Highlanders (5-8-0, 0-5-0) as they tried to rally in the second half. Longwood totaled 11 of their 17 shots in the game's first 45 minutes, before Radford recorded nine of their 12 attempts after halftime.
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Chervenic made her first start of the season in goal and played all 90 minutes, recording a career-high eight saves, including five in the first half. Longwood's Maria Kirby countered with seven saves in the game to record the Lancers' seventh shutout of the season.
Jane Everett and Amanda Philip each had three shots to lead the Highlanders, with five of the six coming in the second half. Everett had a header attempt off a Jordan Lundin corner kick go wide early in the second half. Philip, Jessica Wollmann, Ana Revollo and Asyia Mitchell put shots on goal later in the half.
"We made some changes in the second half and had some younger players and players that haven't had much playing time step up and play well," Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "We had good possession and a handful of chances and were unlucky to score in the second half."
The Highlanders finally return home to Cupp Stadium on Saturday as they play host to UNC Asheville. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
