RADFORD, Va. – After a road stretch that included three matches in three different states, the Radford women's soccer team will be back on its homefield of Cupp Stadium Saturday night as it hosts UNC Asheville for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Fans in attendance will receive free Highlanders cowbells while supplies last.
Despite still looking for an elusive first Big South win, Radford (5-8, 0-5) continues to rank second in conference play in shots per game and is fifth in assists per game. The Highlanders have also generated the fourth-most corners and have 10 more than their opponents. Individually, Asyia Mitchell is fourth with 17 shots in league matches. For the season, Amanda Philip and Ana Revollo share the team lead with three goals, while Mitchell, Hannah Duff, Jasmine Casarez and Sally Dillinger each have two apiece. Philip, Revollo and Casarez give RU three of the top eight freshmen goal scorers in the conference.
Scouting UNC Asheville: The Bulldogs (9-4-0, 3-2-0) have alternated wins and losses through their first five conference games, with a 1-0 victory over Charleston Southern on Wednesday the most recent result… UNCA has totaled 27 goals on the season, but just six of them have come in Big South games… Sophomore forward Caroline Houser has dished out a conference-best eight assists while scoring four goals… Five of freshman forward Justine James' team-leading six goals were scored in non-conference play… Three different goalkeepers have made at least three starts and combined on six shutouts.
Series History: The teams have met 30 previous times, with Radford holding a 20-7-3 all-time record, including 9-2-1 at Cupp Stadium… UNC Asheville's 1-0 victory last year snapped a nine-game unbeaten streak in the series for the Highlanders.
Up Next: Radford remains at home to take on Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
