RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team is set for a weekend in the mountains of North Carolina as the Highlanders take on Appalachian State, Friday at 3 p.m., and UNC Asheville, Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Highlanders (0-2) will be seeking their first win of the season after opening with back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked Virginia Tech and East Tennessee State.

App State is 4-3 on the season, with all four of its wins coming at home. The Mountaineers' only home loss this year was to ETSU, 5-2.

Competing at No. 3 singles, Brianna Armellino has a team-best 5-2 mark for Appalachian. In doubles, Melissa Machado and Megan Mullen have teamed up for a 5-1 ledger at the No. 2 position.

Asheville is unbeaten (5-0) entering Saturday's Big South opener for both squads. The Bulldogs are coming off one of their biggest upsets in recent history. They stunned Southern Conference powerhouse and nationally-ranked Furman, 4-3, on Feb. 11 in Greenville, S.C.

Radford is next in action at Richmond on Monday, March 2. The Highlanders are set to clash with the Spiders at 2 p.m. in the Commonwealth's capital.
