SINGLES PLAY DOOMS WOMEN’S TENNIS IN 4-2 LOSS AT APPALACHIAN STATE

RESULTS

BOONE, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis team was unable to hold on to its 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point as Appalachian State rallied for a 4-2 decision over the Highlanders Friday at Yonahlossee Racquet Club.

The Highlanders secured wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Grace Sarver and Meg Napolitano took down App State's tandem of Megan Mullen and Melissa Machado, 8-4. Moments later, Natalie Sayer and Taylor Fay clinched the doubles point for RU (0-3) with their 8-6 triumph on court three over Gabrielle Wreder and McKayla Zupan.

However, the only singles win the Highlanders recorded was Fay's 6-2, 6-4 victory in the fourth slot. The Mountaineers (5-3) prevailed in four of the other five matches to capture the dual. Appalachian improved to 5-1 at home this season with the win.

Radford must regroup quickly as the Highlanders head to Asheville, N.C., for Saturday's Big South opener against the unbeaten UNC Asheville Bulldogs (5-0). Action gets underway from the Asheville Racquet Club at 3 p.m.
