WOMEN’S TENNIS CAPTURES FIRST BIG SOUTH WIN

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team defeated Longwood, 5-2, Saturday afternoon to collect its first Big South triumph of the season. With the win, the Highlanders improved to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in league matches.

Radford got off to a nice start by sealing the doubles point at the first and second flights. Grace Sarver and Meg Napolitano, the Highlanders' No. 2 tandem, succeeded 8-5 over Longwood's Anna Pelak and Nicole Parker. At the No. 3, Natalie Sayer and Taylor Fay fell, 8-4, to Longwood's Mason Thomas and Maria Coronel to even doubles competition.

It was a tight match at the top flight to clinch the double's point. Nonetheless, Taylor Newman and Gemma Valls rose to the occasion by prevailing, 8-6, over Longwood's Malin Allgurin and Palome Alatorre—giving the Highlanders a 1-0 edge heading into singles.

RU continued its control over Longwood in singles, as Valls, Newman, Sayer, and Napolitano put the Highlanders on top, 5-0. Thomas and Alatorre notched the two points for the Lancers (6-10, 1-6 Big South) on courts four and five.

The Highlanders wrap up their weekend with Sunday's home match with Charleston Southern at 1 p.m. at the Radford University Tennis Complex.
