CARTER COLLECTS BIG SOUTH WOMEN’S GOLF FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Larissa Carter of the Radford women's golf team was chosen by the Big South as The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week Friday morning.

Behind a season-best, 36-hole 153 (78-75), Carter tied for sixth out of 79 golfers at the Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford last weekend at the par 72, 5,922-yard Moss Creek Golf Club on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.

"We had a great tournament as a team. It wasn't our best overall performance, but definitely a solid performance, especially Sunday," head coach Jeff Beeler pointed out. "Larissa was fantastic with two great rounds around a very tough and demanding golf course. This is great recognition for Larissa and our program."

After opening with a 6-over-par 78, the Owasco, N.Y., native rallied with a season-best, 3-over-par 75 in Sunday's final round to help the Highlanders climb four spots on the team leaderboard. Carter entered the final round in a tie for 11th, but five pars over her final six holes catapulted the freshman into a tie for sixth—her first Top 10 of the season.

Carter and RU are back in action Monday and Tuesday at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Kingsmill Resort's Plantation Course in Williamsburg, Va.
