RADFORD, Va. ---- The Radford softball team returns to action at the East Tennessee State Tournament in Johnson City, Tenn., this weekend. The Highlanders open play against Tennessee Tech on Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m.

After Saturday morning's contest, the Red and White will meet up with the weekend's host, East Tennessee State, at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Radford and the Golden Eagles will meet once again at 11 a.m. before wrapping up play at 3 p.m. against the Bucs.

The Highlanders and Tennessee Tech have met twice in the programs' histories. The Golden Eagles hold a 2-0 advantage over the Highlanders. In 1999, Radford fell 5-2 on the road to TTU, and dropped the second contest last season on Feb. 23 at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., 1-0. Abby Morrow pitched two innings in last year's edition, striking out two batters and holding the Golden Eagles to one hit.

ETSU is one of 80 programs that Radford holds a winning record against. The Highlanders are 14-6 all-time against the Bucs, dating back to 2001. Last time the Red and White matched up against ETSU, the Highlanders swept the Bucs in Johnson City, Tenn., 3-2, 7-4, on May 1, 2009.

Radford swept the Big South Conference weekly awards on March 3, as Becky Mantel and Morrow were named the player and pitcher of the week. It was the first Big South weekly honor for the Highlanders this season, and first since April 14, 2014. The last sweep of the awards for Radford was April 8, 2013.

Becky Mantel recorded her first and second home run of the season last weekend, as she batted .556 with four RBI. Mantel now has 18 career homers in her three years as a Highlander.

Morrow logged 14 innings in the circle in Clearwater, Fla., going 2-0 with 11 strikeouts. She gave up just two hits on Sunday against Sacred Heart and surrendered two earned runs all weekend.

Whitney Davis hit two triples against Sacred Heart to become just the second player in program history to tally multiple triples in the same game. The only other occasion occurred on March 22, 1995.

Due to unplayable conditions at Betty Basler Field, the tournament has been moved to a turf intramural field on the campus of East Tennessee State. As a result, Kennesaw State, originally scheduled to play two contests against Radford this weekend, withdrew from tournament.
