SINGLES PLAY POWERS COASTAL CAROLINA PAST RADFORD, 4-1

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Despite prevailing in doubles competition, Radford failed to earn a singles victory as Coastal Carolina defeated the Highlanders, 4-1, Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship at the Asheville Racquet Club.

Superior play on courts one and three clinched the doubles point for the Highlanders (7-12). Natalie Sayer and Gemma Valls raced out to a 5-2 advantage en route to an 8-2 triumph over Honami Yazawa and Libby Scott at the No. 1 position.

With doubles competition tied 1-1, Grace Sarver and Meg Napolitano delivered the deciding victory at the third slot. The duo dispatched Romane Delay and Cari Berry, 8-4, to give Radford a 1-0 edge heading into singles play.

However, the Chanticleers (15-5) were able to mount the comeback by prevailing on courts one, three, four and six. With the win, Coastal advances to Friday's semifinal match against the winner between No. 3 seed Winthrop and No. 6 seed UNC Asheville at 2 p.m.
