WOMEN’S TENNIS DROPS SEASON OPENER TO NO. 30 VIRGINIA TECH

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech, ranked No. 30 in the nation in the latest ITA women's tennis national rankings, swept visiting Radford, 7-0, Saturday morning in both teams' season opener at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies (1-0) were dominant in doubles, only dropping three games before they clinched the 1-0 lead. Tech, which featured two nationally-ranked singles players, increased its lead to 2-0 on the strength of Caroline Daxhelet's 6-0, 6-1 triumph on court two.

Raluca Mita and Sansitha Nandakumar captured the decision for the Hokies behind their straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

RU (0-1) returns to the court tomorrow (Sunday) for a 10 a.m. dual match with Western Carolina. The neutral-site contest will take place at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
