RADFORD BACK AT HOME WEDNESDAY TO FACE CHARLESTON SOUTHERN



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Following a five-day layoff, Radford's men's basketball team returns to game action Wednesday night as it hosts Charleston Southern for a Big South Conference game.
  • Tipoff inside the Dedmon Center is set for 7 p.m.
  • Series: Radford leads 43-26
  • Last meeting: Charleston Southern 79, Radford 71 (Feb. 6, 2015)
  • The road team has won the last five meetings between the teams, including an exchange of victories last season.
  • RU is 23-9 all-time vs. CSU at the Dedmon Center, but the Buccaneers have been victorious in their last four visits since 2010-11.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 8-7, 1-2 Big South
  • Radford is looking to get back to .500 in conference play while improving to 6-1 this season coming off a loss.
  • The Highlanders lead the Big South in rebounding (40.0 per game) and rank 19th nationally in offensive rebounds (14.3 per game).
  • Radford is 14th in the NCAA in 3-point defense, limiting teams to 28.4 percent. RU is also second in the Big South in blocks and ranks second in points allowed in conference games (64.0).
  • Ed Polite, Jr. is the Big South leader with 55 offensive rebounds and is tied for 27th nationally at 3.67 per game. The freshman has pulled down at least three in 11 of the 15 games, including the last six.
  • Polite, Jr. is also tied for 11th in the conference in overall rebounding (6.2 rpg) and third in blocks (20), while scoring 9.2 ppg.
  • Brandon Holcomb has scored in double figures in three straight games, while averaging 11.7 points and 8.3 rebounds.
  • Rashun Davis is second in the Big South in assists (4.4), tied for ninth in scoring (13.7) and tied for eighth in steals. Davis is nine assists away from tying Rod Cousin for fourth-most in program history (383).
  • Cameron Jones' 18-point game against High Point was his fifth double-digit outing in the last seven games. He now ranks 17th in the conference with 12.7 ppg, and tied for seventh in league play (15.7).
  • YaYa Anderson now has 202 career 3-pointers, equaling Leslie Ballard for sixth place on the program's all-time list.
  • Radford is shooting 49 percent in second halves of games, compared to just 38 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
 
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
  • Record: 5-9, 1-2 Big South
  • Charleston Southern is coming off a tough 78-73 loss at home to first-place High Point on Saturday. The Buccaneers led by four before being outscored 9-0 over the last 4:24.
  • In its earlier conference games, CSU fell to Winthrop at home by one and won at Liberty 68-61, its lone road victory of the season.
  • Senior forward Aaron Wheeler, the lone returning starter, is averaging 7.9 ppg, but had 18 points and nine rebounds against High Point.
  • Freshman point guard Armel Potter leads the team with 13.2 points and 3.9 assists per game. He has had seven games with at least 18 points – including a season-high 20 against Florida State. However, he scored just two against High Point on 1 of 3 shooting in 19 minutes.
  • CSU leads the Big South and ranks fifth and seventh nationally in 3-point field goal makes and attempts. They are shooting 36 percent behind the arc with 10.7 makes per game on 29.7 attempts.
  • Junior guard Patrick Wallace has attempted 119 3-pointers on his own, connecting on a conference-high 47 (39.5 percent). He is second on the team with 12.4 ppg.
  • Redshirt junior Raemond Robinson is second in the conference in 3-point percentage at 45.6 (36 of 79), while averaging 9.4 ppg.
  • Charleston Southern is second to last in the Big South in rebounding (34.9 per game), last in field-goal percentage defense and ninth in points allowed (75.7).
  • The Bucs' only non-conference win over a Division I opponent was against East Tennessee State, while four of their losses came to Wichita State, Stanford, Arkansas and Florida State.
