RADFORD PUTS TOGETHER STRONG SHOWING IN HOKIE INVITATIONAL



BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team returned to action in the Hokie Fall Invitational after taking a break after participating in the ITA Atlantic Regional Oct. 14-18.
 
Drousile Dzeubou took home third place consolation honors in the Maroon Singles flight, defeating Townson's Nicole Shakhnazarova 6-2, 6-2. Earlier in the tournament, Dzeubou dropped a first matchup to Francesca Fusinato of Virginia Tech (6-1, 6-3) and a second round consolation match to George Washington's Marie Decamps (6-3, 6-2).
 
In the Orange Singles Flight, Natalie Sayer put together a strong showing. Sayer defeated Lucy Williams of Towson 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the first round; before falling to Virginia Tech's Sansitha Nandakumar 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
 
Sayer went on to defeat UNC Wilmington's Xandra Fougner 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth place main bracket. The junior would finish with a sixth place finish after falling to Janina Braun of VCU 6-2, 6-3.
 
Claire Nguyen and Karlie Pope took on the Black Singles flight as the duo advanced to the second round of the winners' bracket. Nguyen received a first round bye, while Pope defeated Thai Thompson of UNC Wilmington in a thrilling first round match by a score of 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (4).
 
Nguyen dropped a second round matchup to Kamilla Beisenova of George Washington 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. After advancing to the fifth place main bracket match due to a withdrawal, Nguyen finished sixth after dropping a 6-2, 6-4 match to Marija Bogicevich of Marshall.
 
Pope fell to Virginia Tech's Luisa Uscocovich in the second round by 6-3, 6-1, before finishing seventh place in the winners' bracket due to a withdrawal.
 
In outside doubles action, Dzeubou and Sayer teamed up take an 8-5 first round win over Marshall's Daniela Dankanych and Nikola Novackova. The Highlander duo eventually finished in eighth place of the main bracket.
 
After dropping their doubles flight on the inside courts, Camilla Littlewood and Meili Martin advanced all the way to the consolation final, eventually falling 8-7 (6) to George Washington's Marie-Louise Decamps and Victoria Kogan.
 
Building off their finishes in singles action, Nguyen and Pope took home the fifth place consolation with 8-7 (7) decision over Annika Sillanpaa and Fougner of UNC Wilmington.
 
Radford will finish their fall season this weekend in the Wofford Invitational Nov. 4-6.
