RADFORD, Va. – The Highlanders will take their five-game winning streak into Boone, N.C., Tuesday night in their first matchup against Appalachian State since 2011. Radford has played six straight games at home, hitting the road for its first road game since March 8.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • In Radford's five-game winning streak, the Highlanders have scored 49 runs on 62 hits.
  • The Highlanders collected their first non-conference home sweep since 2015 with a weekend sweep of Rider.
  • In the sweep, Radford's offense scored 32 runs on 43 hits. Of the 32 runs scored, all but two came as RBIs.
  • In the winning streak, Radford has racked up nine doubles, while collecting 21 in the last 10 games.
  • Committing 36 errors on the season, Radford has limited its miscues to six during the winning streak.

  • Horwitz is third on the team with a .333 average and leads the way with 13 RBIs. He is working on a 13-game on-base streak. Has seven multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games.
  • Kyle Butler ranks fifth in the Big South with a .365 batting average and is tied for fourth with 16 runs scored.
  • Extending his hitting streak to 10-games, Matt Roth is tied for fifth in the league with 25 hits, ranking second on the team with a .347 batting average.
  • Jonathan Gonzalez also boasts a 10-game hitting streak, ranking third on the team with 20 hits and 10 RBIs.
  • Yielding only six runs over the week, Radford has lowered its ERA to 5.48, ranking seventh in the league. The Highlanders are one of five teams that has not allowed 100-plus earned runs on the season.
 
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE

  • Appalachian State has faced six nationally ranked opponents to start the season, including two inside the Top 10 in No. 5 South Carolina and No. 9 East Carolina.
  • The Mountaineers last home came on March 8 in a 4-3 win over UNC Asheville.
  • On the season, Appalachian State is 4-0 against Big South teams, sweeping a weekend series from Gardner-Webb early in the season.
  • Appalachian State opened conference play last weekend at No. 14 Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin' Cajuns took the series, but the Mountaineers collected a 12-4 win on Saturday.
  • In the win, Appalachian State hit four home runs, led by a three-run shot off the bat of Jason Curtis.
  • Looking to take the series on Sunday, the Mountaineers fell 4-3 on a walkoff safety squeeze.

  • Tyler Stroup holds a .464 average with four home runs and 10 RBIs.
  • Brian Bauk leads the team with 12 RBIs, but is only hitting .200.
  • Appalachian State holds a 3.81 team ERA, allowing only 72 earned runs in 170 innings pitched. The Mountaineers have struck out 157 batters, while walking only 80.
