SOFTBALL TRAVELS TO HAMPTON BEFORE HOSTING VIRGINIA TECH

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball team plays three mid-week non-conference games against a pair of in-state foes in the next two days, traveling to Hampton for a Tuesday doubleheader, before returning home to host a make-up game with Virginia Tech on Wednesday.
 
The doubleheader at Hampton is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, while the single game against the Hokies is now set for a 5 p.m. first pitch at Radford Softball Stadium.
 
The Highlanders swept a doubleheader at Hampton last season with 6-0 and 5-1 victories. They were the teams' first meetings since 2006.
 
Virginia Tech has a 38-10 all-time lead in New River Valley series with wins in the last 10 games since 2011. The Hokies won last year's matchups 2-1 in Blacksburg and 4-0 in Radford.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 20-20
  • Radford has won seven of its last eight non-conference games.  
  • Summer Robinson is on a six-game hitting streak and was 5 for 10 at the plate during the Campbell series.
  • Marissa Gagliano has reached base in nine straight games, including hits in eight of them. She is 11 for 28 with six runs scored during the span. For the season, she has a team-best 30 runs and 20 stolen bases, and is second with 35 hits.
  • Brittany Wratchford hit her team-leading ninth home run and had three RBIs against Campbell, giving her 26 RBIs for the year, second on the team behind Hunter Mundy.
  • Kayla Bishton and Maggie Rowe are third in RBIs with 23 apiece.
  • Bishton and Mundy each have eight doubles, two triples and five home runs, while Rowe has eight doubles and six homers.
  • Sofia Tapia has a five-game reached base streak and a team-leading 22 walks.
  • Brooke Trapuzzano's two-run double in Saturday's game came on her third collegiate at-bat.
  • Kayla Huffman and Abby Morrow have combined to log 233.2 innings in the circle. Huffman owns a 3.29 ERA, 87 strikeouts and 51 walks, with Abby Morrow at a 3.56 ERA with 72 strikeouts and 28 walks. Huffman has 87 strikeouts and 51 walks, while Morrow has 73 strikeouts and 28 walks.
 
SCOUTING HAMPTON
  • Records: 13-18, 8-1 MEAC
  • Hampton swept Md. Eastern Shore over the weekend by a combined 16-2 score, improving to 8-1 in MEAC play.
  • The Pirates dropped a doubleheader to Liberty on April 4 by 7-0 and 13-0 decisions. They split two non-conference games with fellow MEAC member NC Central.
  • Hampton is hitting .262 as a team with 44 doubles, eight triples and 14 home runs.
  • Taylor Warrick leads the way with a .385 average and 30 hits, including six doubles and four triples, with 11 RBIs.
  • Jada Fields has team-highs of four homers and seven doubles, while Ashley Grassiini has four doubles, three homers and a team-best 12 RBIs in 23 games.
  • Pitchers Allyson Babinsack and Allie Hotetz have started all 31 games. Babinsack is 8-12 with a 3.00 over a 135.1 innings with 72 strikeouts and 34 walks. Hotetz is 5-6 with a 5.25 ERA in 62.2 innings.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
  • Records: 16-27, 5-16 ACC
  • Virginia Tech plays a doubleheader at Liberty on Tuesday, and is coming off a three-game sweep at home to Louisville while being outscored 29-14.
  • Breanna Davenport led the Hokies at the plate against Louisville, going 8 for 11 in the series. She is batting .354 on the season, with 10 doubles, seven home runs and 26 RBIs.
  • Emma Strouth is hitting .356 with six home runs, four triples, seven doubles and a team-leading 30 RBIs.
  • Vanessa Gonzalez is tied for third in the ACC with her 10 home runs, while adding seven doubles and 25 RBIs.
  • Olivia Lattin has 10 doubles and seven home runs, along with a .336 average and 23 RBIs. In last year's two meetings, Lattin was 4 for 7 with a double, a home run and scored three of the team's six total runs.
  • Virginia Tech is batting .296 overall with 66 doubles and 46 home runs this season. They rank 12th in the nation in homers per game and tied for 22nd in doubles per game.
  • Carrie Eberle and Taylor Barnes have combined for 28 starts in the circle. Eberle has logged a team-high 117 innings and is 7-7 with a 3.89 ERA. She has struck out 56 and walked 57.
  • Barnes is 4-9 with a 5.07 ERA in 77.1 innings with 22 strikeouts and 30 walks. Opponents are hitting .343 against her.
