WOMEN’S GOLF SPLITS AFTER TWO ROUNDS OF OYSTER SHUCK MATCH PLAY

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team completed the first two rounds at the Oyster Shuck Match Play on Monday and fell to UNC Asheville in the first round, but defeated North Carolina A&T in the second round at the Patriot Point Links in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

In their first ever match play, the Highlanders' Olivia Jay and Meagan Board defeated Adelyn Deery and Janie Thomas of UNC Asheville. Jay was ahead of Thomas by two holes with one to play and concluded the individual match with a win. Board was up four holes over Deery with three to play and gave Radford an early 2-0 advantage.

Kasidy Beckel and Khushboo Thiagaraj both lost on the final hole and Radford missed the victory by one par. Morgan Cox was defeated by four holes to Rebecca Black giving the Bulldogs the first round win.

In the second round against North Carolina A&T, every Highlander picked up a victory except for Beckel, who was behind four holes with three to play. Jay defeated Erica Jackson with five holes to play, for the most impressive win of the day by any Radford player.

Thiagaraj won her match with three holes to play, while Cox and Board won theirs with two holes remaining. The win by Cox clinched the match for the Highlanders and placed the in the championship match of the consolation bracket.

• Kellen Alsip (UNC Asheville) defeated Kasidy Beckel (Radford), 1 UP
• Linna Brooks (UNC Asheville) defeated Khushboo Thiagaraj (Radford), 1 UP
• Rebecca Black (UNC Asheville) defeated Morgan Cox (Radford), 4 & 3

ROUND TWO (NORTH CAROLINA A&T)
• Olivia Jay (Radford) defeats Erica Jackson (North Carolina A&T), 6 & 5
• Khushboo Thiagaraj (Radford) defeats Jill Harvison (North Carolina A&T), 4 & 3
• Morgan Cox (Radford) defeats Jocelyn Andrews (North Carolina A&T), 3 & 2
• Sofia Alvarez (North Carolina A&T) defeats Kasidy Beckel (Radford), 4 & 3
• Meagan Board (Radford) defeats Deja Smith (North Carolina A&T), 3 & 2

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will conclude play and face Siena in the fifth place match on Tuesday. Play will begin at 8 a.m.
