HIGHLANDERS LOOK STRONG AT ELON INVITATIONAL

ELON, N.C. – After the tournament was postponed due to Hurricane Florence back in September, the Radford women's tennis team was finally able to compete in the Elon Invitational this weekend.

Playing at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, the Highlanders went up against Christopher Newport, Davidson, Elon, Liberty and North Carolina Central.

SINGLES RESULTS
Anastasia Belyaeva continued her impressive fall season with another strong showing in the Maroon singles bracket. She topped Centenari (Davidson) by a score of 6-2, 6-4 before beating Zenoni (Elon) 0-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) to reach the finals.

Tyler Blalock and Malin Falk picked up wins in the Gold singles bracket. Blalock earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ranta-Aho (CNU) and Falk topped Miller (NCCU) 6-2, 6-3. Then Falk defeated Truluck (Davidson), 6-1, 6-3 to win the consolation draw.

Jeanine Acierto earned two wins in the Oak singles bracket and Katey Freuhauf picked up another Radford victory in the Powell singles bracket. Acierto bounced back from a tough first set to defeat Ferner (CNU) 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 and then dominated Yermal (CNU) 6-0, 6-2. Freuhauf breezed past Gaines (NCCU) with a final line of 6-4, 6-1.

Marielle Leahy rounded out the Highlanders' singles campaign with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Delp (CNU) to reach the Acorn bracket semifinals.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Dzeubou and Blalock teamed up for the Maroon doubles bracket and they nearly topped the field. The duo began the Elon Invitational with an 8-7 (4) win over Scholvinck/Truluck (Davidson) and then followed it up with a 6-3 win against Ranta-Aho/Reed (CNU). Nayar/Paraja from Elon ended up taking a 6-2 victory in the final match.

Leahy and Freuhauf won the Round Robin draw and Belyaeva and Falk finished strong in the Gold Doubles bracket with a 6-1 win against Yermal/Ferner (CNU) and a 6-0 victory over Burgess/Gilbert (CNU).

UP NEXT
The Highlanders head to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Wofford Invite next weekend. The tournament is scheduled to take place between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4 at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center.
