RADFORD MOVES TO 3-1 ON SEASON WITH 6-1 WIN OVER WVSU



BLACKSBURG, Va. – Radford has only dropped five courts on the season as the Highlanders improved to 3-1 with a 6-1 neutral site victory over NCAA Division II West Virginia State inside the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
 
The Highlanders hosted the Yellow Jackets in Virginia Tech's indoor facility to due impending inclement weather in the area.
 
Radford is off to its best start since 2009, when the Highlanders opened the season 4-2.
 
The doubles point went to Radford as the courts finished in order. Natalie Sayer and Tyler Blalock defeated the team of Kierstin Hensley and Nina Dillwald 6-2. The Sayer/Blalock duo improves to 3-1 in doubles action with the victory.
 
Drousile Dzeubou and Lotti Meszaros improved to 4-0 in doubles play, defeating Laura Isbey and Hanna Kontsavaya by the score of 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.
 
Rounding out doubles action, the team of Zoe Fraser and Jeanine Acierto improved to 2-0 together in No. 3 doubles.
 
Meszaros continued her solid play in No. 3 singles, defeating Dillwald 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 3-1 in the spot. Fraser followed with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Nika Tadic in No. 6 singles to give Radford a 3-0 edge.
 
Clinching the match in No. 5 singles was Acierto with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Kayla McKnight as the frosh moves to 3-0 in first collegiate season.
 
Going to three sets were Blalock and Dzeubou. Blalock took the first set 6-2, before dropping the second set 4-6. The freshman battled back for a 6-1 third set win. Dzeubou dropped the first set 2-6, before storming back for 6-1, 6-4 set victories.
 
Radford will play its third match of the season inside the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Saturday as the Highlanders face Virginia Tech in a 4 p.m., match.
