HIGHLANDERS IMPROVE TO 4-2 WITH WIN AT GEORGE MASON

FAIRFAX, Va. – Earning a 5-2 victory over in-state foe George Mason on Friday afternoon, Radford's women's tennis team is off to its best start since 2009 as the Highlanders improve to 4-2 overall.

In 2009, Radford started the season 4-2, finishing with a 12-10 overall record.

"It was a great team effort today," said head coach Jessica Giuggioli. "We had a lot of positive energy out there and were able to feed of each other to get the win."

The Highlanders collected the doubles point to start the match, despite dropping the first doubles contest.

The duo of Drousile Dzeubou and Lotti Meszaros improved to 6-0 on the season in No. 2 doubles as they defeated Brianna Gibbs and Hannah Yang by the score of 6-4. The win knotted the doubles, giving the Highlanders a chance to take the point with No. 1 singles remaining.

Natalie Sayer and Tyler Blalock handed Radford a 1-0 lead in the match with a 7-5 decision over Sydney Green and Rachel Lee. The win improved the tandem to 4-2 on the season in doubles play.

Radford quickly raced out to a 3-0 edge in the match as Meszaros and Dzeubou continued their strong starts to the season.

Meszaros made quick work of Yang with a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles as she improved to 4-2 in the spot. Dzeubou followed with a 7-6 (8), 6-3 victory in No. 1 singles against Green, improving to 4-2 as well on the year.

George Mason picked up its first win as Kayleigh Hahn battled Jeanine Acierto in No. 5 singles for a 7-6 (0), 5-7, 10-8 victory.

The Patriots' win didn't matter as Sayer clinched the match for Radford in No. 2 singles. The senior improved to 3-2 in 2018 after picking up a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Gibbs.

Also in singles, Blalock moved to 4-1 in singles as she collected a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Christine McCarthy to conclude the Highlanders singles wins on the day.

Radford will wrap-up its weekend road wing on Saturday as the Highlanders travel to our nation's capital to take on George Washington in a 2 p.m., match. The Highlanders are 3-1 in road matches on the season.
