RADFORD TRAVELS TO VIRGINIA TECH FOR NRV SHOWDOWN



RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball team is back in the New River Valley and travels to Tech Softball Park on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and can be seen on ACC Network Extra via WatchESPN.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

•  Radford (9-4) bounced back after a tough slate in the First Pitch Classic with a 3-1 record in the Black & Orange Challenge with wins over EKU, Akron and Drexel.
•  Marissa Gagliano and Talia Douglas were stellar over the weekend combining for 13 of the teams 29 hits and eight of its 21 RBIs.
•  Gagliano is now batting .487 this season, which tops the Big South. She is also on a current eight game hitting streak.
•  Douglas is batting .410, which is sixth in the Big South. She has reached base safely in every game she has worn a Radford uniform (13 games).
•  Radford still ranks inside the nation's top 15 in home runs per game. The Highlanders are 14th and have hit 1.31 per game this season.
•  Gagliano ranks 31st nationally with a .592 on-base percentage. That number also ranks first in the Big South.
•  Abby Morrow leads the pitching staff with a 6-2 record, 27 strikeouts, seven complete games and a 1.95 ERA.
•  Morrow has only allowed three walks all season and ranks 11th nationally in walks allowed per seven innings averaging 0.38. The senior is also 18th in the country with six victories. She leads the conference in both categories.
•  Hunter Mundy leads the team with four home runs. The sophomore is one of six players with multiple extra base hits this season.
•  Radford has a 2.34 team ERA, 61 strikeouts and has recorded four shutouts in 13 games.
•  Opponents are only batting .229 and the Highlanders have outscored their opponents 60-37.
•  Radford has yet to lose back-to-back games this season and has outscored its opponents 15-4 when coming off a loss.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
•  The Hokies (7-5) return from a trip to Texas' capital city competing in the Texas Tournament.
•  Virginia Tech went 1-3 over the weekend with losses to Texas, Wichita State and No. 20 Michigan. However, the Hokies sole victory came against the 20th ranked Wolverines.
•  Virginia Tech has faced two teams inside the top 20 (No. 14 Ole Miss and No. 20 Michigan), but had four scheduled with No. 11 Alabama and No. 20 Ohio State. The two they didn't play were cancelled due to inclement weather.
•  Olivia Lattin leads the squad with 15 hits and a .455 batting average. She has three doubles, one RBI and has scored eight runs.
•  Caroline Schoenewald has scored a team-high 10 runs and has two doubles with a .324 batting average. She is the only Hokie with two home runs.
•  Tech has two pitchers in Carrie Eberle and Jordan Dial that are a great 1-2 punch. Eberle (3-2) has a 1.33 ERA, three shutouts and has only allowed 19 hits through 31.2 innings of work.
•  Dial (3-2) leads the team with 43 strikeouts and 35 innings pitched. She has allowed 21 hits, but boasts a 1.40 ERA.
•  The Hokies have outscored their opponents 54-33 and is batting .264 as a team.
 
UP NEXT
Radford will travel back to the Peach State to compete in the Bulldog Classic that will field Jacksonville State, UNC Greensboro and No. 14 Georgia. Radford begins play on Friday at 1 p.m., against UNC Greensboro.
