RADFORD FACES NORTH FLORIDA IN MIDWEEK BATTLE



JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Radford softball team is midway through its spring break tour and will make a stop at UNF Softball Complex in Jacksonville, Fla., to face North Florida on Wednesday night at 5 p.m.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford (14-7) is coming off a sweep against Florida A&M on Monday night. The Highlanders defeated the Rattlers 9-1 in six innings and then scraped out a 5-2 win in 11 innings in game two.
  • Abby Morrow picked up a career-high 10 strikeouts against Florida A&M. She ranks inside the top 10 nationally in wins (ninth), shutouts (seventh) and walks allowed per seven innings (fourth).
  • The Highlanders are 4-1 this season against teams that made an NCAA Regional in 2017.
  • Marissa Gagliano is batting .406 this season with four doubles, both leading the team. The senior leads the Big South in on-base percentage (.537).
  • Talia Douglas is hitting .344 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. She leads the freshman class in both categories.
  • Brianna Mills leads the squad with two triples, ranking fourth in the conference.
  • Radford has two pitchers inside the Big South's top 10 in ERA. Morrow is third in the conference with a 1.58 ERA and Kayla Huffman is seventh with a 2.23.
  • Huffman ranks third in the league in strikeouts per game averaging 6.69 per outing.
  • The Highlanders are 2-0 inside the state of Florida and have not played a team out of the Atlantic Sun Conference this season.
  • Radford has a 3.38 team ERA, 96 strikeouts and recorded six shutouts.
  • Radford has outscored its opponents 93-66 in games this year.
 
SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA
  • The Ospreys enter the game with a 12-9 record, but has faced tough competition. UNF has notable wins over Illinois, Providence, Iowa State and No. 15 UL Lafayette.
  • North Florida will face its third Big South opponent in Radford. They defeated Presbyterian 1-0 and Campbell 6-0.
  • UNF has only scored 53 runs as a team, but has held its opponents to just 45.
  • Their pitching staff has accounted for a 1.67 ERA and 109 strikeouts.
  • Junior Navia Penrod comes into play with a team-best .485 average as she's picked up 33 hits on the season. The 33 hits ranks fifth in the nation after last weekend's play.
  • Sydney Matzko(6-5) dropped her ERA to a 0.92 mark and has nine complete games on the season.
  • Leading the team with eight doubles, junior Dominica Cocuzza owns a .309 average. Her doubles put her at ninth in the nation.
