RADFORD OPENS HOMESTAND WITH VIRGINIA TECH ON WEDNESDAY



RADFORD, Va. – After having multiple contests cancelled because of inclement weather, the Radford women's softball team will finally participate in its home opener against rival, Virginia Tech, on Wednesday at 7 p.m., inside the Radford Softball Stadium.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford (20-13) has won six of their last seven games with a recent series victory over Campbell.
  • Radford scored 23 runs on 34 hits against the Fighting Camels.
  • The Highlanders are looking for their third win over an ACC school in back-to-backs seasons.
  • With a win over the Hokies, Radford will be undefeated against ACC opponents in the regular season for the first time in program history.
  • Maggie Rowe has increased her team-high RBIs to 25 with three over the weekend.
  • Kayla Huffman (6-3) was lights out against the Camels. She pitched 10 innings, struck out 14 batters and earned the series-clinching win.
  • Her performance led her to earn Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week.
  • Marissa Gagliano leads the team in batting average with a .398. She also has a program record 34-game reached base streak, dating back to last season.
  • In their last meeting against the Hokies, Radford had solid pitching from Abby Morrow (13-8) as she pitched a complete game shutout with no walks allowed in the 4-0 win.
  • She leads the team in ERA with a 2.11 and has a team-high 13 wins.
  • Hannah Medlam went 2-for-3 against the Hokies with the lone RBI of the game.
  • Medlam had a team-high seven hits in four games last week, with two three-hit performances.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
  • Virginia Tech enters with a 15-23 record and will face Liberty before traveling to Radford.
  • The Hokies are 4-6 through their last 10 games and were swept at North Carolina last weekend.
  • Currently, Tech is 3-2 against Big South teams with wins over Campbell, Presbyterian and Longwood.
  • The Hokies split with Longwood and suffered its other Big South loss to Radford.
  • Last time against the Highlanders, Virginia Tech tallied eight hits from seven different players.
  • Emma Strouth had the only multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance.
  • Strouth leads the Hokies in multiple categories, such as batting average (.301), at-bats (113), runs score (16), hits (34), and RBIs (14). She has started and played in all 38 games so far this season.
