MEISINGER TO MAKE MLB DEBUT FOR ORIOLES

BALTIMORE – Ryan Meisinger will become the fourth Highlander to don a Major League Baseball uniform as the Baltimore Orioles selected the contract of the former Radford baseball standout on Friday morning from Triple-A Norfolk.

"Unbelievable feeling. This is a dream come true," Meisinger said. "I want to thank the coaching staff and everyone at Radford, they were a huge part in this."

The Dunkirk, Md., native could make his MLB debut in his home state as the Orioles host the Los Angeles Angels starting Friday night (June 29-31).

After starting the season in Double-A, Meisinger was promoted to Norfolk, turning in a 2.05 ERA with a 30-to-5 K/BB ratio. Meisinger collected his first Triple-A save in his last outing on June 26, giving him 20 in his Minor League Baseball career. The right-hander posted a 11-7 record with a 2.37 ERA in 120 games, striking out 246 in 201.2 MiLB innings.

"I have no words to describe when Meis called me last night to let me know he was being called up. We are so excited for him," said head coach Joe Raccuia. "He came into Radford as a under recruited player, then became one of the best closers in the country and now he is a big leaguer. When people throw around terms like mentally tough, hardworking and focused; they are describing Ryan."

Meisinger joins Phil Leftwich, Ryan Speier and Eddie Butler as the only Highlanders to play in the big leagues.
