WOMEN'S TENNIS COMPLETES HOKIES FALL INVITE

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team kicked off its 2018-19 season with a solid showing at the Hokie Fall Invite this weekend.

The Highlanders were originally scheduled to begin their season at the Elon Invitational, but the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather when Hurricane Florence made its way up the east coast. Finally, the team was able to shake off the rust and compete just across town at Virginia Tech.

TOP SINGLES RESULTS
Making her debut for Radford after transferring in from Texas Rio Grande Valley, Anastasia Belyaeva was a standout. She earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Svaree (PSU) before topping Truscott (GSU) 7-6(4), 6-1 on Saturday.

Lilly Ellick also picked up a win on Saturday, defeating Vick (VT) by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Radford then secured three more singles wins on Sunday with Tyler Blalock beating Mesmer (VT) 6-1, 6-2, Marielle Leahy earning a 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 over Mendoza (BC) and Drousile Dzeubou topping Delaware's Courtney, 6-4, 6-3.

TOP DOUBLES RESULTS
Katey Fruehauf and Marielle Leahy teamed up for a pair of doubles victories in Blacksburg this weekend. First they earned an 8-2 win against Hokies Mesmer/Woo on Saturday and then they topped Earnhardt and Mendoza, 8-5, on Sunday to win the back draw.

Dzeubou and Malin Falk defeated Smith/Ballon (MU) by the same score of 8-5 before Balyaeva and Blalock put a cap on the weekend with an 8-6 win over Morse/Sevo (ASU).

UP NEXT
After a short break, the Highlanders will stay in the Commonwealth of Virginia to compete in the ITA Regionals hosted by Liberty University. The regionals are scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 12 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 16.
